When I switch to 38+P generally one of three things happen.

I have found that with the standard 38 loads I get decent hits on target in a reasonable time. I have medium to average sized hands and shoot quite a bit with more than a few revolvers. Here is my experience with +P in a light alloy revolver (mine is a S&W 642) What grips do you guys suggest for a gal with medium girly hands? I'd rather the upgraded grips be wood instead of rubber so her clothing won't bunch up around the pistol/holster showing she's carrying.

I put another 10 cylinders full thru the pistol and damn this is a smooth/accurate little belly gun. She also surprised me saying that she wants a holster for on the body carry instead of carrying it in her purse. She loves the pistol but said that she would like a slightly better/bigger grip no surprise there. We worked on putting the top of the front sight right where the belly button would be on a B-27 target placed at 7-9 yards. I was very impressed with my wife's accuracy and at the speed of pulling the trigger in double action mode. The 125gr Gold Dots were teh pistol's favorite and surprisingly the easiest recoiling followed closely by the Geco ammo. Gold Dots, S&B, Geco, and Magtec were the loads I brought to see what the pistol liked best. The wife put 10 cylinders full thru it yesterday. I was looking at THIS NP3 style finish Robar offers but I'm going to think on it for a while. He said someone like Robar would do it for me though. When I asked if Colt could redo the factory finish or even hard chrome this pistol for me he said no Colt couldn't do that due to the frame being aluminum and the barrel being screwed into it. He suggested to send it in so they could go thru the pistol for me. The rep reiterated to shoot NO +P ammo thru it and I agreed. I called Colt and the rep agreed that Colt would still service this pistol with whatever parts Colt had still available. I wonder if Colt would look at it, (go thru the pistol), for me? Or since it's no longer supported would even asking them to be a dead end? What issues was your pistol experiencing? Was it having timing problems? Otherwise, you could have a gun you love to carry but can't trust anymore. So I would NOT shoot +p's through it unless I called Colt first and found out what they say. Since you bought the gun used you have no way of knowing how many +p's have gone down range or if it was ever sent back to Colt.

My guess is I exceeded that 1000 round plus p limit (OK I know I did, qualifying four times a year with 25-30 rounds of ammo alone exceeded that limit.). A buddy of mine wanted it knowing the issues so I sold it ot him. Since Colt hasn't made these in three decades that support probably isn't there any more.Īfter 15 years of daily pocket carry and being shot a lot I ended up having some issues. WHen Colt announced they were discontinuing it he ordered 30 or 40.) said it was ok for plus p but needed to be sent back to the factory every 500-1000 rounds of +p.

IIRC my owners manual (I bought it new in 1996 it had was the last one they had. Yes, it will handle very limited use of plus p. That's awesome! So do you think it can handle +P defense loads like the 135gr short barreled Gold Dot loads?Īnd thank you for nailing down the date for me!
